I would like to ask you to take less than a minute of your day (and each day until the end of the voting), and vote for a project that is a part of missions in Ukraine. If that’s all you need to know, here’s the link: http://www.cultivatewines.com/cause/6058/.

Award-winning filmmaker, Matt Blick, spent a year at the beginning of his career as an MTW missionary in Europe. He developed a number of films for MTW teams to promote the work of their ministry and inform their supporters. Now back in the US leading Cellar Media, he still has a heart for missions as is evidenced by this project.

Cahaba Park Church in Birmingham, AL is a PCA church that has had missions as a part of its DNA since its beginning. While many church plants wait to “start” missions for a few years so they can have more financial stability, Cahaba Park began risking missions from day one. They have been strong supporters of the work in Ukraine.

The voting is simple. You won’t get spammed through Facebook (it uses Facebook to log in). And you can vote once a day until the end. The top 7 projects will get some funding for their work. Of course, we’d like to see Not Forgotten be the winner and get $50,000 for their project. Click here to vote now! If you feel led to support this project, click here.

I received a phone call from a Missions Director at a church today asking for ideas in shepherding a couple who is in the beginning stages of discerning their call to missions. It’s always exciting to get a call like this. The couple is already planning to attend MTW’s Vision Retreat, a 2 1/2 day event designed to give people a big picture overview of missions in general and MTW in particular. I thought it’d be helpful to write down some of the additional ideas we discussed.

If you as a missions leader have someone come to you with an interest in missions, here are some ideas to help them along:

Offer to meet with them to pray. Do it regularly. It may be once a quarter or once a month depending on how far they are along in this process. Be a sounding board for them to process things and debrief with you. Ask good questions, but mostly just listen.

Connect them to a missionary already on the field. Introduce them over email and then follow up with them in your meetings to see what they’ve learned. Consider connecting them with a missionary you know is like-minded and/or in the same region of the world or possibly with similar gifting or skills.

Give them a good missionary biography. Maybe even offer to read it with them and discuss it when you meet together. Fuel this desire that God has given them. Click here for some good book recommendations.

Consider sending them to a missions conference at a nearby church. This way they can just go and participate (almost invisibly) with no commitments or jobs or other distractions.

If/as you see the Lord cementing this call on their life, help them develop a plan of next steps. If they are going with MTW they will have a liaison with us who will do that, but many will appreciate some face-to-face help and accountability with this.

What ideas do you have for helping someone move forward?

Missionary care is more than sending Joe and Sally a devotional book or a $25 gift certificate to Chili’s. Much more. Missionary care is walking with your missionary friend through the season of life that God has called him to.
